Graduate Outcomes survey |
|
 |
If you completed your course between February 2022 and April 2022 you should have received your Graduate Outcomes survey by email recently.
What’s been the next chapter of your Chester story? Graduate Outcomes is your chance to tell us what you have been doing since leaving the University, whether this is employment, further study, self-employment, setting up your own business, or something totally different. Even if you have come back on a new course, we would still love to hear from you. It’s also an opportunity to say how your course prepared you for what you’re doing now and for your future career plans.
It’s really important we get as many responses as possible. Your response will help the University and your department to evaluate the course you took, for the benefit of current and future students.
If you are unable to be reached by email, you will then be contacted by phone. However, it’s much quicker and easier doing it online. You have until the end of August 2023 to complete it.
If you have new contact details to help us with this, please let us know by emailing graduateoutcomes@chester.ac.uk, so we can make sure your graduate voice is heard.
If you haven’t received your Graduate Outcomes survey, let us know via the above email address.

Code First Girls |
Learning how to code is such a valuable skill to have, no matter what your field of study or career background is. Tech touches every industry, from things like building websites, to understanding data, or developing technology to solve real-world problems like climate change and disease prevention.
With women representing only 17% of the tech industry, Careers and Employability is working with Code First Girls to help more women gain the skills, confidence and tools they need to kick-start their career in tech through courses and job opportunities.
Code First Girls offers a range of courses from beginners to advanced that can be taken around your current studies or after graduation.
The CFG Degree course is sponsored by an employer and can lead to a role with one of the employers. It lasts 16 weeks part-time so can be done around studies or employment. We would recommend taking a Kickstarter class or MOOC related to the specialisation you are interested in so you have the knowledge to pass the Tech Assessment.
All courses are free. Take a look here. Our unique university code is: UPCHE – please input this code in your application form.

Alumni Success Story - Dr Elizabeth Kealy-Morris |
|
I am delighted to share with the University of Chester alumni community that Bloomsbury Publishing has released the edited collection Memories of Dress: Recollections of Material Identities, co-edited by myself and my Manchester Metropolitan University colleagues Dr Alison Slater, from Manchester School of Art, and Dr Susan Atkin, from Manchester Fashion Institute. At the heart of the volume are auto/biographical narratives of everyday dress and life. It combines approaches from dress history, fashion studies and material culture to explore ways in which dress is remembered and how narratives of personal dress practices fit into or subvert wider concepts of fashion and style locally, nationally, and internationally.
My solo chapter in the volume, entitled ‘“The American Look”: Memories of not fitting in’, has developed directly out of my doctoral study at the University of Chester, completed without corrections in 2017. I began my interdisciplinary, practice-based PhD in 2012 with Professor Jeff Adams in the Department of Education and Children’s Services, and Dr Julian Waite in the Department of Music, Media and Performing Arts. Entitled The Artists’ Book: Making as embodied knowledge of practice and the self, the doctorate considered the ways in which we develop confidence through creative endeavor. Utilising methods of autoethnography and practice as research, I examined and developed artists’ books as representations of my childhood in American suburbia, including suburban dress, to better understand my identity through creative practice.

Wellbeing tip of the month |
Nature and Wellbeing – Spending time connecting with nature by being outdoors in green spaces or bringing nature, such as plants, into your home can help maintain a healthy wellbeing. Go for a colour walk and photograph anything or a part of anything of a particular colour. A ‘yellow’ walk, for instance. You will notice things that you have never noticed before; you will have a purpose and you will end up with a great set of interesting pictures (shapes, textures etc) You might even put them together in a frame for your house!
