Wellbeing tip of the month - Reporting with a GP

The first couple of years after you leave university are packed full of changes and if one of those changes is moving to a new place, it is important to remember to register with a GP in the area whether you take regular medication or not. You can find a GP in your local area by entering your postcode here.

Graduate Outcomes Survey

Your graduate voice is powerful and we want to hear it!

If you completed your course between May and July 2021 your Graduate Outcomes survey will be landing in your inbox in early September 2022.

What’s been the next chapter of your Chester story? Graduate Outcomes is your chance to tell us what you have been doing since leaving the University, whether this is employment, further study, self-employment, setting up your own business, or something totally different.  Even if you have come back on a new course, we would still love to hear from you. It’s also an opportunity to say how your course prepared you for what you’re doing now and for your future career plans.

It’s really important we get as many responses as possible. Your response will help the University and your department to evaluate the course you took, for the benefit of current and future students.

Think back to when you were first applying to university. You may remember using the DiscoverUni website to help you chose your course. It’s anonymised data from Graduate Outcomes which is used here. Completing Graduate Outcomes will help future students make informed decisions, like past graduates will have helped you only a few years ago.

You will initially be emailed a link to the online survey. If you are unable to be reached by email, you will then be contacted by phone. However, it’s much quicker and easier doing it online.

If you have new contact details to help us with this, please let us know by emailing graduateoutcomes@chester.ac.uk, so we can make sure your graduate voice is heard.

Make sure you are part of the picture.  Complete your Graduate Outcomes survey at your earliest convenience once it lands in your inbox. If you don’t receive it in early September, let us know via the above email address. We don’t want you to miss your chance to let us know what you’re doing.

Further information about the Graduate Outcomes survey can be found at www.graduateoutcomes.ac.uk

50K in a day: Chester Alumni to run in Father's Memory

Joe Riley

Alumni Joe Riley (2009) is to run 50 kilometres in a single day on 17 September 2022 as a fundraising effort for the Huntington's Disease Association (HDA). The route, which will span most of the Itchen Way, will start at Southampton and finish outside Joe’s favorite pub, the Wykeham Arms in Winchester.

Joe was diagnosed with the Huntington’s Disease gene at age 34, something he inherited from his father Andy. Andy sadly passed away in June this year but was due to cycle alongside Joe as he ran the 50k route. The race now takes on special significance, with Joe already exceeding his initial fundraising target of £5,000 in his dad’s memory.

Joe says: “I’ve been diagnosed with HD aged 34, and it’s obviously life changing. I’ll be running 50k in one day to raise both money and awareness for this awful disease.

“As a teacher, I’m trying to use my platform to spread awareness of HD, but to also provide a 'face' to the disease.

“My Dad passed away in June of this year. He was the loveliest man and only had kindness in his heart. He was going to cycle along the entire route with me, but now he'll be with me on my shoulder all the way.”

Anxiety-free news
Giraffes at Chester Zoo

We know that the years after you graduate can often be a stressful time so each month, we hope to help with a piece of anxiety-free news for you to enjoy.

This month, we celebrate the news of a rare baby giraffe being born at Chester Zoo!

On 6 August 2022 after a 15-month long pregnancy, mother Orla gave birth to male calf Stanley - he was named after Mount Stanley, the tallest mountain in Uganda, where the zoo's conservationists are working to help giraffe populations. When Stanley was born, he was already 6ft tall and weighed a hefty 72kg, a strong and healthy calf.

The zoo’s giraffes are Rothschilds giraffes, a rare sub-species that is one of Africa’s most at-risk mammals, with fewer than 2,500 remaining in East Africa.

We can’t wait to visit Stanley!
